Last night I went for my first real ocean swim workout, and it felt like a small but significant adventure. I probably looked like a lost giraffe thrashing in the water, but the cold waves and awkward strokes gave me the rush I’d been craving.

It wasn’t an Arctic surf trip or a mountain summit—it was just 400 meters in the Long Island Sound. Yet somehow, that ordinary swim gave me the same spark of adventure I usually chase in faraway places.
