Tour du Mont Blanc Trail Guide
Tour du Mont Blanc Trail Guide
In September 2026 I hiked the Tour du Mont Blanc with three friends. We walked 154 km / 96 miles through France, Switzerland and Italy, climbing 9,584 m / 31,444 ft. It was one of the best experiences of my life.
It was also messier than the guides make it look. The refuges were booked out four months ahead, so we flipped direction and went clockwise. We took a bus when half the group was sick or injured, and we crossed the Col du Bonhomme in a storm with rivers breaking their banks.
This guide is the real version. It’s everything I wish I’d had before we left, in one 27-page PDF you can keep on your phone on the trail.
What’s inside
The full route map and a stage-by-stage table, with distance and climbing for every day
A day-by-day breakdown with elevation profiles, trail tips and bail-out points
Every refuge, gîte and hotel we stayed in, linked to the exact Google Maps location
A real budget: what we paid for every bed, plus food and transport, per person (about €1,100 / $1,230, excluding flights)
When to go, how to book the refuges and how to get there from Geneva
How to handle storms, safety and bad weather in the mountains
My gear checklist and what I actually carried
Lessons we learned the hard way, plus a trip sheet to plan your own dates
Bonus: the GPX file of our exact route, so you can load it into AllTrails or your watch
Who it’s for
Anyone planning the TMB who wants straight, honest information from someone who just did it. It’s hard, but it’s doable for beginners if you’re fit and prepared. All distances and elevations are in both metric and imperial.
